Baseball Places Four on All-CAC Team
YORK, Pa. - Four members of the Wesley College baseball team were named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) baseball team, announced May 5. Outfielder Stu Madden was named to the All-CAC first team, while pitcher Ryan Buckland and Colin Warner and catcher Dan Bunnion were voted to the second team.
Madden, a junior from Langhorne, Pennsylvania, leads the team and ranks among the conference leaders with a .386 batting average, 59 hits, 68 total bases and 46 runs scored. More impressively, the Neshaminy High School graduate ranks among the national leaders with 33 stolen bases, tied with teammate Kevin Ellis for the CAC lead. Madden was named to the All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) second team in 2007 before Wesley moved to the CAC.
Middletown, Delaware's Buckland earned his third all-conference honor after being named All-PAC in both 2006 and 2007. The senior became Wesley's career wins leader in 2008 and finished the year with an impressive 8-1 mark. His eight wins led the Wolverines and ranked among the conference leaders, as did his 69 strikeouts and three complete games. Buckland, a graduate of Caravel Academy, currently has 26 career victories.
Warner, a sophomore graduate of Indian River High School, paced the conference with a 1.56 earned run average and tied for the conference lead with three saves. Wesley's top arm out of the bullpen also posted a perfect 5-0 record and has fanned 56 batters in 41 innings. His 11.83 K/9 leads the conference. It is his first all-conference selection.
Bunnion, of Blackwood, New Jersey, served as Wesley's starting catcher and clean up hitter all season. His 48 runs batted in during 2008 are just three short of the Wolverines' single season record. The total ranks him in the top five in the CAC, as well as pacing the Wesley team. The Highland Regional grad also paced the team with three homers and 13 doubles, while batting an impressive .351. He was named All-PAC in 2007.
Wesley enters its regular season finale on May 5 with a 26-14 record overall and finished an impressive 10-8 in the CAC. The Wolverines face Polytechnic (N.Y.) at 3:30 PM.
