YORK, Pa. - Wesley College freshman pitcher D.J. Keckler was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week after throwing a two-hit complete game shutout victory over CAC rival and the No. 1-ranked team in the country, Salisbury.
In the scheduled seven-inning game, Keckler had to work out of jams in the seventh and eighth innings, then pitched a perfect ninth after the Wesley offense broke open the scoreless contest. Keckler allowed just five baserunners and held the Gulls hitless over the final 7.1 innings (25 batters), including a stretch of 13-straight retired batters.
It was the first time Wesley had beaten a No. 1 ranked program in a team sport in school history.
Keckler was making just his third career appearance.
The Wolverines are currently on their spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for five neutral site games, beginning with a single game against Catholic on March 2.
