MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Wesley College's Geoff Kimmel (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) drove in five runs with a pair of doubles as the Wolverines dispatched Penn State Berks 18-5.
The Wolverines (7-7-1) stole 13 bases in the contest, including three apiece by Kevin Murphy (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and Billy Crowe (Newark, Del./Salesianum).
Murphy and Grant Morlock (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) each scored four runs in the game.
Wesley broke open a 2-1 game with a four run fifth inning and tacked on 12 more runs in the final four innings.
Scott Marshall (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) drove in the first Wesley run of the fifth, doubling in Murphy, who reached on a lead off single. Kimmel had a sacrifice fly in the inning and Bill Hodgdon (Dennisville, N.J./Middle Township) ripped an RBI single and later circled the bases on a stolen base and a passed ball.
In the seventh, a three-run double by Matt Pizzolato (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery) stretched Wesley's lead to 11-1 before the Nittany Lions (2-3-1) struck back with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Dan Skawski's two run double started the scoring, while Anthony Furillo knocked in another run with a single.
After scoring twice in the eighth, Wesley finished strong with five runs in the ninth. After Carter drove in a run with a single, Kimmel plated two with a double, Crowe had an RBI base hit and a sacrifice fly by Stu Madden (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) finished the scoring.
Bobby Buttafogo (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) picked up his first win of the year, allowing four hits and four runs in six innings, while walking eight.
Michael Ference took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits and four walks in the first five innings.
