Early Runs Wesley's Downfall
YORK, Pa. - No. 12 York (Pa.) College scored six times in the first three innings and held on for a 6-2 win over Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action.
The Spartans (18-5, 8-3 CAC) scored twice in the second on a single by Joe Doyle and a sacrifice fly by Matt Monti. York tacked on four more the following inning, higlighted by a three run home run by Matt Austin that made the score 6-0.
The Wolverines (18-11-1, 7-6 CAC) battled back with single run in the fourth when a sacrifice fly by Geoff Kimmel (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) brought home Kevin Murphy (Middletown, Md./Middletown). Then in the seventh, Greg McKee (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) singled home Scott Marshall (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) to make it 6-2. The next batter, Billy Crowe (Newark, Del./Salesianum) chased Doyle to the track, but the rightfielder made the catch against the wall to end the inning.
Wesley got something going again in the ninth inning when Kimmel singled to lead off the inning and a double by Bill Hodgdon (Dennisville, N.J./Middle Township) put runners on second and third with one out. The Spartans' Andy Rozenzweig forced a pop up and a fly ball to finish his complete game.
Rozenzweig scattered nine hits and did not walk a batter to pick up his fifth win of the year. He struck out nine.
Mike Dombrosky (Bridgeport, N.J./Paulsboro) took the loss for Wesley, allowing all six runs in four innings. Matt Faulkner (Milford, Del./Milford) pitched the final five frames, holding York to just three hits and striking out six.
