MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Wesley College dropped its rematch with Staten Island 9-8, but rebounded in a rescheduled contest against Eastern, 8-3.
In the first game of the day, CSI's Joe Cassano went a perfect 5-for-5 with three doubles and a home run in the win as the Wolverines took their first loss of 2010. It was a Mark Glennerster base hit, however, that capped a three-run ninth for Staten Island, who erased an 8-6 deficit in its final at bat.
For the Wolverines, Grant Morlock (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) homered and had two runs batted in. He had two hits in the game, as did Geoff Kimmel (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) and Steve Perone (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery).
Kyle McGuire (Hartly, Del./Polytech) took the loss in relief of Ryan Doran (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem).
Chris D'Antuono notched the win.
Wesley rebounded against Eastern behind a pair of freshman pitchers to improve to 2-1 on the year after an 8-3 win.
Dominic Rizzolo (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) went six innings in his first career start to pick up the victory. He scattered eight hits and four walks. Michael Bazoge (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) tossed three innings of one-run relief for his first career save.
Wesley scored three times in the first inning on a two-run double by Bryan Reshetar (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) and a run scoring single by Greg McKee (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney). The Wolverines added four more runs in the fifth on another RBI hit by Reshetar and a double by Tyler Burns (Dover, Del./Dover) that scored two runs.
Reshetar and Rob Benedict (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) had two hits apiece for Wesley, while Kimmel drew three of the Wolverines' 10 bases on balls in the game.
Greg Lukasik took the loss for the Eagles. Mike McNulty had two hits, including a homer.
Wesley is back in action with a single game against Penn State-Abington on Thursday in Myrtle Beach.
