Wesley Falls in Slugfest
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Big fourth and fifth innings by Ohio Northern proved too much to overcome as Wesley fell 18-12 to the Polar Bears.
The Wolverines (3-2) led 5-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth, but ONU (3-0) exploded for eight runs in the frame and six more the next inning to take the lead. Wesley's offense tried to make a comeback with a seven-run eruption in the seventh inning, but Wesley did not score again.
Rob Benedict (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) picked up three hits for the Wolverines. The sophomore doubled, scored twice, drove in two runs and stole a base. Geoff Kimmel (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) had a pair of hits and two runs batted in. Billy Crowe (Newark, Del./Salesianum) also had a two-hit day and scored twice. Bryan Reshetar (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) drove in three runs with a bases loaded triple in Wesley's big seventh inning.
The Wolverines' Michael Bazoge (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) took the loss, while Cody Fisher was credited with the win for the Polar Bears.
Wesley wraps up its spring trip with a single game against Manchester March 6.
