DOVER, Del. - Wesley College's Rob Benedict (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and Steve Perone (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) each homered and drove in five runs as the Wolverines won their fifth straight, 24-10 over visiting Arcadia.
Benedict had five hits on the afternoon to lead a Wesley (10-7) attack that produced 22 hits. The sophomore shortstop also stole a pair of bases in the game and scored four runs.
The Knights (2-11) jumped ahead early with a three run first and a four run second to lead 7-3. Two Wesley errors opened the door for Arcadia's big second inning after the Wolveirnes had pulled to within 3-2 on a Tyler Burns (Dover, Del./Dover) two-run double in the first inning. Benedict homered in the second to keep the game within four runs.
In the third, reliever Kyle McGuire (Hartly, Del./Polytech) blanked Arcadia and Perone hit his first career home run, a three-run shot, in the bottom of the inning as Wesley trimmed the lead to just one run, 7-6.
Then in the fourth, nine of the first 10 Wolverines to bat as Wesley rallied for nine runs in the inning to take a 15-6 lead. Grant Morlock (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) scored twice in the inning and drove in a pair of runs with a single.
The Wolverines added another run in the fifth and five more in the seventh before Arcadia scored again.
Seth Hastings (Seaford, Del./Sussex Tech), Kevin Murphy (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Perone and Morlock had three hits apiece. Hastings finished just a homer short of the cycle and scored four times.
Kyle McGuire picked up the win with 3.1 innings of relief for Wesley. Corey Kyte (North East, Md./Rising Sun) and Adam McGuire (Dover, Del./Polytech) also threw scoreless frames for the Wolverines.
Matt Pempkowski had four hits for the Knights and Kyle Jackson drove in three runners.
Over the past three games, Wesley has scored 56 runs.
The Wolverines will look to keep their win streak alive when Penn State Brandywine visits Bob Reed Field on Thursday, March 25.
