DOVER, Del. - Wesley College used a six-run third inning to capture a 9-2 win from St. Mary's (Md.) in CAC action.
The Wolverines (14-10, 9-6 CAC) had scored twice in the first when Kevin Murphy (Middletown, Md./Middletown) singled home a run and later stole home, before erupting for six more runs in the third.
Tyler Burns (Dover, Del./Dover) drove in a pair when he ripped a double just inside the bag at third. He scored two batters later on an RBI base hit by Seth Hastings (Seaford, Del./Sussex Tech). Billy Crowe (Newark, Del./Salesianum) also drove in a run with a single before Grant Morlock (Bel Air, Md./Fallston), who had led off the inning, singled home two more for an 8-0 lead.
Wesley starter Ryan Doran (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem), meanwhile, kept the Seahawks (9-19, 4-12 CAC) at bay through the first five innings before Jon Gill drove home a run in the sixth. It was only run Doran would allow over the course of a six-inning, eight strikeout outing.
The Wolverines answered right back in the bottom half of the frame with a sacrifice fly by Burns. St. Mary's Justin Rabon capped the scoring with a sac fly of his own in the seventh.
Bryan Reshetar (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) led Wesley with three hits, while Murphy and Hastings added two each. Burns drove in three runs, while Murphy swiped three bases in the game.
Doran's eight strikeouts in the game were a season high for the Wolverines as the junior picked up his second win of the year.
Brian Billet (Chesapeake, Md./Northern) tossed two innings of scoreless relief to close the game.
Matt Baden had three hits for the Seahawks.
Barrett Enix took the loss, surrendering seven runs in 2.1 innings of work.
The two teams finish the season series in St. Mary's City, Maryland on Saturday, April 10.
