YORK, Pa. - A sacrifice fly by Corey Jefferson (Wilmington, Del./Archmere) in the 12th inning brought home the winning run as Wesley College picked up a 4-3 win over York (Pa.) in the regular season CAC finale.
Greg McKee (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) had an infield single in the inning an moved to second on a throwing error before a wild pitch put him on third with one out. The next two batters, Seth Hastings (Seaford, Del./Sussex Tech) and Morgan Rupp (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) both walked to load the bases before Jefferson sent a ball deep enough into left field to bring McKee home.
The Spartans put two runners on in the bottom of the inning, but AJ Robledo (Melbourne Beach, Fla./Florida Air Academy) induced a 643 double play to end the game for his first career save.
DJ Keckler (Fallston, Md./Fallston) tossed three innings of shutout relief to pick up the win, scattering three hits and a walk.
Along with Shane Yost (Wilmington, Del./Concord) and Zach Stuart (Palmyra, Pa/Palmyra Area), Keckler and Robledo were part of a Wolverine bullpen that held York scoreless for seven innings and allowed just four hits.
Kevin Murphy (Middletown, Md./Middletown) set Wesley's all-time doubles record in the fourth inning with the 38th two-bagger of his career, driving home John Carlson (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) for the game's first run. Murphy scored later in the inning on a single by Ryan Polk (Croydon, Pa./Truman) as the Wolverines went ahead 2-0. The run scored was the 187th of Murphy's career, tying him atop the career leaderboard at Wesley.
A fielder's choice by Kyle Cook in the fifth brought home a run, cutting Wesley's lead in half. Then in the sixth, consecutive doubles by Justin Cohen and Steve Tretter, followed by a CT Stanley single, put the Spartans ahead 3-2.
Hastings led off the Wolverines' half of the seventh with a double and was bunted over to third. Rob Benedict (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) subsequently singled to left center, scoring Hastings to tie the game at 3-3.
That would be all of the scoring until Jefferson knocked in the game-winner five innings later.
Ryan Doran (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) went the first five innings for Wesley, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks.
Andy Rosenzweig went 6.1 for the Spartans and gave up three runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out five.
Murphy was the only player with more than one hit for the Wolverines, going 2-for-5 with a walk.
Cohen, Tretter, Stanley and Jimmy King all had two hits for York.
With the win, Wesley will be seeded fifth in the upcoming CAC Tournament and travels to Frostburg State for a first round game on April 12 at 3:30 PM.
