Baseball Struggles Against Stevenson

DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's baseball team suffered a 13-0 loss to Stevenson on Monday afternoon at Bob Reed Field.  The Wolverines fall to 4-5 on the year while the Mustangs move to 3-0.

Freshman starting pitcher Sagar Patel pitched four scoreless innings to start the game, getting Stevenson to ground into three double plays during that stretch.  However, things became unraveled in the fifth as the Mustangs generated eight runs on seven hits off him in the fifth.  Brett McCulley came in to finish the frame and retired Bret Schilling on a ground out.

Stevenson was able to get four more runs in the next inning off McCulley before Kenny Ciccoli got Schilling to hit a grounder to end the sixth. Ciccoli gave up just one run in the seventh before Shane Yost and Taylor Reynolds pitched scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth.

Scott Merkel and Davis Grove combined to drive in eight runs for the Mustangs.

Trevor Mears recorded a pair of Wesley's five hits on the day. Eric Speidel, Matt Domian and Cody Dmiterchik also collected base knocks.

The Wolverines are back in action on Tuesday, March 11 for a 3 pm start against Shenandoah at Bob Reed Field.
