DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's baseball team fell to Neumann University, 9-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Reed Field. The Wolverines now stand at 16-16 while the Knights move to 14-15.
Eric Marrero got the call on the mound for the Wolverines, allowing five runs over 3.2 innings before giving way to Connor Springsteen. Taylor Reynolds followed with two scoreless innings and Andrew Cooper made history in his scoreless ninth on the rubber. A senior from Wilmington, Del., Cooper made his 64th career appearance which breaks the Capital Athletic Conference record held by York's Jake Hughes.
Neumann led from the onset, scoring three runs in the first and going up 4-0 after the top of the third. Wesley got one of those runs back in its half of the third on an RBI single by Smith. Dmiterchik started the frame with a single but was forced out on a fielder's choice by Tyler Hunter. Hunter then stole second and scored on Smith's single to left field.
That would be all the Wolverines could muster, however, as the Knights added a run in the fourth and four runs in the sixth.
Wesley returns to action on April 24 at Susquehanna at 4 pm.
