Wesley Gets Best Preseason Ranking in School History
The preseason honors keep pouring in for the Wesley College
football team. The Wolverines are ranked second in the preseason
top 25 in the USA Today Sports Weekly College Football Preview.
It is the highest ranking Wesley has received in any poll in school
history. The Wolverines had been ranked third earlier in the week
by The Sporting News and in the USA Today Sports Weekly Preview
last season.
In the three preseason polls released thus far, the Wolverines have
ranked in the top three twice, with Lindy's placing Wesley sixth in
its preseason rankings.
Wesley was one of two Atlantic Central Football Conference teams in
the USA Today Sports Weekly rankings. Route 13 rival Salisbury
checked in at No. 11.
Mount Union was the only team ranked ahead of Wesley, earning the
top spot in the rankings. After the Wolverines,
Wisconsin-Whitewater, Wabash and St. John's (Minn.) rounded out the
top five, respectively.
Wesley, who finished 11-2 in 2008 and won its third straight ACFC
Championship on its way to the NCAA Quarterfinals, will be the
'Road Warriors' in 2008. Seven of Wesley's 10 regular season games
will be on the road, beginning with a game at Christopher Newport
on September 6. The Wolverines home opener is two weeks later, when
Widener visits Scott Miller Stadium on September 20.
