NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Wesley College wide receiver Larry Beavers was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Atlantic Central Football Conference for his efforts in the Wolverines' 41-9 win over Widener.

The senior from Annapolis High School in Annapolis, Maryland had a stellar performance.  He caught eight passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns, completed a pass for 37 yards and rushed for 11 more in the team's home opener.  Beavers also contributed on special teams with three kick returns, including one for 34 yards.

His first touchdown was a 51-yard bomb from quarterback Shane McSweeny for the game's first score.  In the second quarter, he added a five-yard touchdown that broke a 6-6 tie and gave Wesley the lead for good.

His 37-yard pass to Blair Newman in the third quarter set up another Wesley touchdown.

Beavers moved from eighth place into sixth on Wesley's receiving yardage list and now has 1,917 yards.  He also had his 100th career catch and is now in eighth place all-time at Wesley with 101 catches. Beavers' two scores moved him into a tie for sixth with 168 career points and a tie for fifth with 28 touchdowns.

Wesley, who moved up to No. 12 in the D3football.com Top 25, is idle this week before traveling to Frostburg State for the team's Atlantic Central Football Conference opener.
