Wesley Moves Up in AFCA Rankings

DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College football program moved up two spaces to No. 18 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Poll, released September 30.

The Wolverines, 20th a week ago, were able to move up after losses by the sixth and ninth ranked teams.  Salisbury, ranked sixth last week, dropped to No. 17 after a 41-27 loss to Delaware Valley.  Ithaca, formerly ranked ninth, dropped out of the rankings after a loss to St. John Fisher.

The top four teams remained the same as the previous week.  Mount Union received 30 of the 40 first place votes and maintains the No. 1 spot.  Second-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater garnered the final 10 first place votes.  Mary Hardin-Baylor and Capital held onto the third and fourth spots, while Muhlenberg moved into the top five.

Earlier in the week, the Wolverines were ranked 12th by D3football.com.

Wesley, 1-1 in 2008, will open Atlantic Central Football Conference play when the team travels to Frostburg State on Saturday, October 4.
