Trio Earns ACFC Weekly Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Wesley College's Larry Beavers repeated as the Atlantic Central Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, while Jeremiah Santiago was named Defensive Player of the Week and Mike Asiedu earned Rookie of the Week distinction.
Beavers (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) won the award for a second straight week after returning back-to-back kick offs for touchdowns in the second half fo the Wolverines 42-13 win over Webber International on October 25. He returned the opening kick of the second half 81 yards for a touchdown and added a 91-yard touchdown return later in the period. The senior scored the game's first touchdown on a 45-yard pass play, as well, and tallied 226 all-purpose yards.
Santiago (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) led the Wolverines with 11 tackles on the afternoon as Wesley held its fifth straight opponent under 14 points.
Asiedu (Yonkers, N.Y./Gorton) made two tackles on special teams and recovered a fumbled punt in the second half to earn his first career Rookie of the Week honor.
The conference's Offensive Player of the Week honor went to Salisbury running back Shelby Fisher.
The Wolverines will head south this weekend to renew the Route 13 Rivalry with the Sea Gulls on November 1. Kick off is set for 1:00 PM.
