Duo Recognized by ACFC

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Shane McSweeny and Larry Beavers of the Wesley College football team earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Central Football Conference for their efforts in a win over Division II Lake Erie College.

The duo earned honors despite getting the entire second half off as the Wolverines put up 47 first half points in the contest.

McSweeny (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) was named the Offensive Player of the Week after he completed 8-of-10 passes for 211 yards and two scores.  He rushed for 13 more yards, including a one-yard touchdown run for Wesley's opening score.

Beavers (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) was named Special Teams Player of the Week after running a punt back 80 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.  It was the senior's second punt return score in 2008 and his fifth return touchdown of the season including his three kick return scores.

Frostburg State's Ian Turner won Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Josh Lofton of Apprentice was named Rookie of the Week.

Wesley, ranked ninth this week by D3football.com, enters its regular season finale against Gallaudet with a record of 7-1 overall.
