Wesley Jumps into AFCA Top 10
WACO, Texas - The Wesley College football team moved up two places and into the top 10 in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division III Top 25.
Earlier this week, the Wolverines were voted seventh by D3football.com in its Top 25 and the ECAC Lambert-Meadowlands Top 10 had Wesley tied for first.
The Wolverines are preparing for their fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Football Championship after a 55-7 win over visiting Gallaudet on November 15. In the first round, Wesley will face a Muhlenberg that dropped nine places to No. 13 this week after an overtime loss to Moravian.
With three of the top six teams losing last week, the top 10 faced some major reshuffling.
Mount Union claimed 39 of the 40 first place votes to maintain its No. 1 ranking with 999 points. North Central (Ill.) moved into second place this week after a loss by Wabash.
Millsaps moved up to third, with Mary Hardin-Baylor and UW-Whitewater each jumping three places to complete the top five. Undefeated Williamette is sixth this week, followed by Hardin-Simmons, Case Western, UW-Stevens Point and Wesley to fill in the top 10.
Wesley is one of two Atlantic Central Football Conference teams in the top 25. Salisbury's No. 21 ranking this week is a two-spot gain over the previous week.
