Wolverines Talk to Local Middle School About Academics
DOVER, Del. - Members of the Wesley College football team and coaching staff met with 65 students from Central Middle School in Dover, about how to make the right academic choices and devising an academic game plan.
The idea for the visit came from Wesley's defensive coordinator Tom Smith, who is also a Social Studies teacher and team leader at Central Middle.
Coach Steve Azzanesi talked about topics that Head Coach Mike Drass and the Wesley College staff discuss with their players daily like preparing for class, not missing class, dressing to impress, being early to class, sitting up front (SLANT sit up, lean forward, act interested, nod & track the teacher), and building relationships with their teachers.
After meeting as one big group they split up into ten groups with each Wesley football player leading a discussion with six or seven middle school children on how they use these six points for academic success and answer any questions.
The Wesley College football players that participated where C.J. Bacote, Abeeb Badmus, Tambua Bradford, Matt Fridell, Brandon Mitchell, Jarrett Williams, Jordan Culbreath, Eric Adams, James Buettner and Jeramie Powell.
After the discussion the group had grilled hotdogs and hamburgers and played football.
