McSweeny Named ACFC Player of the Week
NEWPORTS NEWS, Va. - Wesley College quarterback Shane McSweeny (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) was named the Atlantic Central Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his efforts in a win over Ohio Dominican.
The junior completed 13-of-24 for 168 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a career high 114 yards and one touchdown. With Wesley down 11 in the fourth quarter, he threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Sean McAndrew (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township), threw a two-point conversion, then rushed for the winning score with just over two minutes to play.
Wesley, 10-0 in 2009, won its fifth straight ACFC crown and is the top seed in the South Region for the upcoming NCAA Division III Football Championships. The Wolverines will host North Carolina Wesleyan in the first round on November 21 at 12:00 PM.
