Four Honored by D3football.com
MINNEAPOLIS - Wesley College placed four student-athletes on the D3football.com Preseason All-America Team, led by first team pick Anthony West (Laurel, Del./Laurel).
West, a senior guard, was the Wolverines lone first team pick, while senior tight end Sean McAndrew (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township), junior defensive end Chris Mayes (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) and senior safety Aaron Benson (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) all earned second team honors.
For Benson and McAndrew, it is the fifth All-America honor of the 2010 preseason. The duo has earned accolades from The Sporting News, Lindy's, the DIII Senior Classic and Consensus Draft Services. Mayes was named to the Lindy's team, while West was chosen to the DIII Senior Classic team. Senior quarterback Shane McSweeny also earned a place on Lindy's and DIII Senior Classic preseason squads and Ellis Krout joined him on the DIII Senior Classic Team.
McSweeny also earned a place on Lindy's preseason squad, while Krout and West picked up their first honors this summer. Wesley went 13-1 last season, advancing all the way to the national semifinals. It was the Wolverines fifth straight trip to the NCAAs and as many consecutive ACFC conference crowns. Wesley also won the Lambert Meadowlands Trophy as the best Division III team in the East and was named the ECAC Division III Team of the Year.
