Offensive Backs Preview
The Wesley offense once again will be directed by quarterback Shane McSweeny (Sr., 6-2/215, Bensalem, Pa.), who passed for 2,917 yards and 36 touchdowns and rushed for 718 more yards and eight additional touchdowns. McSweeny, a Preseason All-American, garnered D3football.com Second Team All-South Region honors and was both the ACFC and ECAC Southwest Player of the Year in 2009. McSweeny will be backed up by Justin Sottilare (Jr., 6-2/185, Columbia, Md.) who was 18-of-31 for 216 yards and three touchdowns last year. Strong armed Chris Cummings (So., 6-2/228, Newark, Del.) will compete under center after an injury plagued 2009 season.
Brandon Wright (So., 5-11/202, Clayton, N.J.) will replace Aaron Jackson at tailback. Wright rushed for 212 yards on 45 carries backing up Jackson last fall and combines 4.5 40 speed with a strong physical running style. Competition will come from JJ Dickey (Fr., 6-1/210, Wilmington, Del.), BJ Marshall (So., 5-9/200, Gaithersburg, Md.), Garrett Burgess (Sr., 5-5/180, Barnegat, N.J.). Freshmen Brandon LeGrand (6-0/192, Greenwood, Del.) and Eugene Byrd (5-8/165, Philadelphia, Pa.) Hassan Alston (Jr., 6-0/220, Randallstown, Md.) returns at fullback after starting 14 games last season.
