The versatile Smith enters his 12th season with the Wolverines and fourth as Defensive Coordinator, specializing on the defensive line.

His units have led the Atlantic Central Football Conference in total defense three times in his four seasons as defensive coordinator (2008, 2007 and 2005).

The 2008 defense ranked 16th in Division III in both scoring defense (15.0) and total defense (265.4).  In 2007, the Wolverines' defense was ranked in the national top 20 in total defense, pass efficiency defense and tackles for loss.

While at Wesley Smith has coached several positions: offensive line in 2002, outside linebackers in 1999 and running backs in 1998. In his 11-year tenure at Wesley, he has coached numerous All-ACFC selections and several All-Americans, including three-time D3football.com South Region Defensive Player of the Year Bryan Robinson.

Smith graduated from King’s College in 1995, earning a degree in history/secondary education and earned his Masters in Education from Wesley in 2001. As a player, Smith was a member of the offensive line and was part of the King’s first varsity team in 30 years. He spent the 1997 season at Bethany College coaching the running backs and two years at his alma mater as the defensive ends coach.

Smith is employed by the Capital School District as an American History Teacher. Originally from Roxbury, New Jersey and a 1991 graduate of Roxbury High School, Coach Smith resides in Dover with his wife Anna Maria and their son Alexander.
