Wolverines Fall in Heartbreaker

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - A goal by Casey Dellostretto led Gwynedd-Mercy to a 4-3 win in double overtime over Wesley College in non-conference field hockey action. 

It was the third of Dellostretto's three goals on the afternoon. 

After her first score gave the Griffins (9-3) a 1-0 lead, but the Wolverines quickly tied the score off a penalty corner.  Nicole Hill (Pocomoke, Md./Holly Grove) knocked the ball home with an assist from Amanda Fisher (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) and the team's went into the half tied at 1-1.

Early in the 38th minute, Dellostretto converted a penalty corner to put Wesley behind 2-1.  The Wolverines, however, got goals from Brooke Tadlock (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and Tristin Burris (Camden, Del./Polytech) for a 3-2 lead at 58:07. 

Dottie O'Neil tied things up with just 1:46 to play in regulation to send the game into overtime.  After neither team scored in the first extra period, Dellostretto scored for the Griffins in the second overtime for the win.

Sarah Johnson (Honeybrook, Pa./Twin Valley) stopped seven shots for Wesley.

Kate Eschbach made 17 saves for the Griffins.
