ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Wesley College field hockey team downed the Eastern University Eagles, 2-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday.
Morgan Gannon tallied the opening goal of the contest in the 10th minute when she flicked a shot off the right post and into the goal.
Eastern would nod up the game in the 51st minute when Ali Balmer scored on an assist from Gina Palmer.
Two minutes later, Wesley would retake the lead when Kasey Fry found Gannon outside the circle and Gannon blasted it high past the goalie.
Eastern would attempt to tie up the game with multiple corners but the Wesley defense would hold strong and deny the Eastern comeback.
Emily Wagner recorded her team-best seventh defensive save of the year on an Eastern shot early on in the second half.
Sidney Knott notched nine saves for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines will resume conference play on Saturday when they host the No. 10 ranked Christopher Newport Captains. Action from Drass Field is slated for 1 p.m.
