Powers Finishes Final Round at Nationals

May 18, 2007 - Riley Powers finished the final round of the NCAA Division III National Championship tied for 74th place individually. Powers fired a 6 over par 78 to move up two places from his round three spot of 76th.

On the front nine, Powers quickly moved to -1 under with birdies on three of his first four holes. Those birdies were tempered by two bogies and a double bogie to leave him at +2 at the turn.

Powers failed to make any birdies on back nine that included four consecutive bogies. Powers four round total was 319 (+31).

The Wesley College golf team finished in a tie for 25th after missing the cut on Wednesday.

Powers makes final cut at Nationals

May 17, 2007 - Wesley College golfer Riley Powers has made the final cut of the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championship. Powers will tee off at 12:50 p.m. on Friday, May 18 at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers, Indiana.

After defeating Jason Nussbaum of Mount Union College in a playoff of Tuesday to make the first cut, Powers shot a disappointing 12 over par 84 today. However, it was still good enough to keep him in the tournament tied for 76th overall. Powers has shot a three day total of 241 (76, 81, 84).

Powers is will be playing his second round without fellow Wolverine teammates after Wesley missed the cut as a team on Wednesday.

Clinton Dammann of St. John's University, MN is leading the tournament with a 1-under (215) total after three rounds (72, 71, 72). St. John's also leads in team standings with a 16 stroke lead over the University of La Verne.

Wesley Golfers Fall to 25th After Second Round

May 16, 2007 - The Wesley College golfers fell into a tie for 25th place at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Indiana. After an opening round of 314 at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club, the Wolverines had trouble early on at the Prairie View Golf Club ending up shooting a team 330, 42 shots over par.

Leading the way was Tyler Smith who shots a team best 78 (+6). Smith faired well on the new course with two birdies on the back nine.

Riley Powers ended 3 strokes behind Smith with an 81 (+9). Will Scarborough, Andrew Geyer, and Mike Rushin, each had their difficulties shooting an 85, 86, and 87 respectively.

Later in the day, Wesley found that it had missed the cut by three strokes, ending their Championship Tournament for 2007.  However, Riley Powers is in a playoff with Mount Union's Jason Nussbaum for the final individual spot to make the cut.

Wesley Golfers tied for 15th after Round 1

May 15, 2007 - The Wesley College golfers sit in a tie for 15th place at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Indiana. Wesley shot a team 314, 26 strokes over par at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club. Riley Powers shot a 4 over, 76 to lead the Wolverines. Powers is tied for 31st place individually.

Fellow Wolverine golfers, Andrew Geyer (+5, 77), Tyler Smith (+8, 80), and Mike Rushin (+9, 81) rounded out Wesley's scorecard.

Rhodes College leads after the first round shooting a team 299, 11 strokes over par.

Wesley Golf Win 9th PAC Championship In a Row

Center Valley, PA - The Wesley College Men's golf won its 9th straight Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship Sunday, April 29th by shooting a team 634, six shots better than 2nd place Neumann College.

All five Wesley golfers finished in the top eight individually. Wesley's Riley Powers fired a tournament 158 (81-77) but finished second to Neumann's Mark Van Vliet who set the pace with a tournament 156 (79-77).

Other Wolverine golfers: Will Scarborough finished tied for 3rd with a 159 (79-80), Andrew Geyer tied for 5th with a 160 (82-78), Tyler Smith and Mike Rushin tied for 8th with a 162.

The PAC Champions get an automatic qualifier to the NCCA national championships at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club, and Prairie View Golf Club in Indiana on May 15-18, 2007.

Wesley Golf Day 1 Leaders at PAC Championship

Center Valley, PA - The Wesley College Men's golf team leads after day one competition at the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championships at the Center Valley Club. Wesley (319) leads over Neumann College (321) by two stokes.

Five Wesley linksters finished in the top 20 individually. Mike Rushin (Bartonsville, PA) is currently tied for the lead shooting an opening round 77 (37-40). Will Scarborough (Dover, DE) is tied for second with a 79 (40-39).

Wesley hopes to continue their dominance of the PAC which they have won the last seven years in a row. Final round action is set for Sunday, April 29.

Wesley Golf team finishes 4th at Home Invite

Wyoming, DE - The Wesley College Men's golf team finished 4th today at the Wesley Spring Invite at Wild Quail CC.  The Wolverines second team fired a team 304 to take fourth.  Rob Zimmerer shot an impressive 72 (36, 36) taking home 5th place individually.

Millersville took home the team title shooting a team total of 292.  They were led by Jordan O'Keefe (72 - 37, 35) and Corey Gast (72 - 38, 34) who also placed individually. 

Second place team honors went to George Washington (297), with third going to West Chester (303).

Individual title was won by West Chester's Matt Sulivan who shot 70 (37-33).  Second place went to George Washington's Conor McMahon at 71 (37, 34).

Golf team takes third at Mid-Atlantic Invitational

Hershey, PA - - - Leading by three strokes in team play after day one competition, Wesley (631) finished in third place behind Franklin & Marshall (624) and Allegheny (628) at the Mid-Atlantic Invitational at the Hershey Country Club East Course.

Wesley was led by Andrew Geyer (153) and Tyler Smith (153), who tied for third in the individual standings. 

Franklin & Marshall fired a final team round of 304, 16 shots better than their day one total of 320 to take the lead from the Wolverines.  Wesley shot 315 on day one and 316 on day two.

Wesley now prepares for their home tournament, the Wesley Invitational, at Wild Quail Golf and Country Club on April 18.

Wolverines Finish Fourth at McDaniel
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Wesley College golf team competed at the McDaniel College Nike Spring Invitational this past weekend, finishing in fourth place overall out of 12 teams.  The Wolverines are coming off a 1st place finish at the Gettysburg College Tournament, and followed with a good showing amongst a competitive field.  St. John Fisher finished first overall with a team total of 596 putting them 20 shots over par, followed by Susquehanna University (603), Carnegie Mellon (615), and Wesley at 617.

Tyler Smith (SR, Dover, DE/Dover) was Wesley's top finisher finishing in a three-way tie for second place with a two-day total of 147 (72-75), which was 3-over par.  Riley Powers (JR, Allenwood, NJ/Wall) finished tied for 12th with a two-day total of 154 (79-75), while Mike Rushin (JR, Bartonsville, PA/Pocono Mountain) finished tied for 15th place with a 155 (73-82).

Wolverines Place 1st Overall in Team Standings
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Mike Rushin (JR, Bartonsville, PA/Pocono Mountain) shot a 3-under par 69 to take medalist honors at the Gettysburg College Invitational, at the Links at Gettysburg, to help lead the Wesley team to a 1st place finish on Tuesday afternoon.  Rushin was 3 shots better than his closest individual competitor.

The Wolverines had two individuals tie for 9th in Andrew Geyer and Will Scarborough (SR, Dover, DE/Dover), as they both shot 6-over par 78's.  Riley Powers (JR, Allenwood, NJ/Wall) tied for 19th with an 81, and Ray Cooke (JR, Seaford, DE/Seaford) tied for 34th place with an 85 on the day.

Wesley Finishes 4th at McDaniel College Fall Invite
HAMPSTEAD, Md. - The Wesley College golf team placed 4th overall at the McDaniel College Fall Invitational held at Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead, MD.  The Wolverines finished with a two-day total of 634 (317-317).  Tyler Smith (SR, Dover, DE/Dover) was Wesley's top finisher placing tied for 2nd, shooting a 6-over par 148 (72-76), while Riley Powers (JR, Allenwood, NJ/Wall) and Mike Rushin (JR, Bartonsville, PA/Pocono Mountain) placed in 11th and 12th place respectively.

St. John Fisher College won the team event with a total of 626 (325-301) and George Washington University's Juan-Pablo Zuluaga won the individual title shooting a 6-over par 148 (76-72) due to tie breaker rules.  The top three finishers, including Smith, were all 6-over par.

Wesley Wins Fall Invitational
WYOMING, De. - Wesley College ‘A' won the Wesley College Fall Invitational held at Wild Quail Golf and Country Club with a team total of 297.  Franklin & Marshal ‘A' finished second with a total of 304, while the Wesley ‘B' team took third place honors with a 306.  Wesley's Tyler Smith (SR, Dover, DE/Dover) was the individual winner shooting an even-par 72.  Riley Powers (JR, Allenwood, NJ/Wall) fired a 2-over 74 for third place honors, while Mike Rushin (JR, Bartonsville, PA/Pocono Mountain) finished fifth but also shot a 2-over 74 due to tie breaker.  Chris Osberg placed 6^th overall shooting a 3-over par 75 for the Wolverines.  The field included seventeen teams at the event.

Golf Dominates at Conference Tournament
Wesley Wins 8th Straight PAC Title
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Wesley College golf team continued its dominance of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Golf Tournament by winning their 8th straight PAC Title, by shooting a team total of 609 at Center Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA.  Wesley had four of five golfers earn 1st Team All-Conference honors, while 16th year head coach Rick McCall took home the Coach of the Year honor.

Wesley's Riley Powers (SO, Allenwood, NJ/Wall) took medalist honors shooting a two-day total of 149 (73-76), while Will Scarborough (SO, Dover, DE/Dover) fired a 150 (75-75) to finish in second place.  Tyler Smith (JR, Dover, DE/Dover) shot a 154 (78-76) to take fourth place and Ray Cook (SO, Seaford, DE/Seaford) shot a pair of 79's for a 158 and a 5th place finish.  Mike Rushin (SO, Bartonsville, PA/Pocono Mountain) also shot a 158 (77-81), placing him on 2nd Team All-Conference. 

Neumann College took second place with a 635, with Alvernia College (649), College Misericordia (671) and Cabrini College (672) finishing in 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively.
