Wesley Claims 11th at Gordin Collegiate

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - As has been the theme in the fall of 2008, the Wesley College golf team improved its play in the final round to finish 11th at the Gordin Collegiate at Cannon Ridge Golf Club in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Junior Andrew Geyer (Milford, Del.) finished with a 74 in the second round for a 36-hole 147 for five over.  He finished tied for 13th.

The next three Wolverines all improved upon their Sunday scores.  Sophomore Chris Osberg (Amherst, Va.) shot a 74 to improve six strokes for a 154 in a tie for 39th.  Robert Zimmerer (Franklin, N.J.) also shaved six shots off his previous round to shoot a 79 and finish tied for 54th with a 164.  Jeff Owsik (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) bettered his Sunday by one shot for an 82 and a 57th place finish with a 165.

Kevin Reidinger (Ogdensburg, N.J.) tied for 59th after shooting an 88 to finish with 175.

Methodist could not hold off Huntingdon (Ala.) and lost the team championship by two strokes despite holding a five stroke lead.  Huntingdon shot a 287 on the second day to finish at 569, compared to a 571 for Methodist.

Methodist's Josh Schrader had to settle for a tie for first with  Emory's Charles Raindre.  Both players finished at 137.

The Gordin Collegiate Classic annually matches the best NCAA Division Men's Golf Teams in one of the nation's most prestigious small-college tournaments. The tournament is named after longtime Ohio Wesleyan coach Dr. Richard Gordin.

The invitations are earned by teams who finish in the top 11 at the previous year's NCAA Men's Division III Golf Championship. As the host university, Ohio Wesleyan University completes as the 12 team field.

Wesley is now idle until completing its fall season with a trip to the O'Briant Memorial Tournament hosted by Guilford on October 27-28.
