Wesley Takes 11th at O'Briant Memorial
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wesley College golf team improved one place to finish 11th as a team at the O'Briant Memorial Tournament hosted by Guilford College at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club.
Cold and windy conditions caused high scores in the second round, resulting in the first time all fall the Wolverines shot higher as a team on the second day of a tournament than the first.
Two Wesley golfers appeared unaffected by the weather and improved on their first rounds. Andrew Geyer and Rob Zimmerer each jumped nearly 30 places on the leaderboard. The duo finished tied for 25th with matching 161s. Geyer shot a 78 to improve five strokes on the second day, while Zimmerer's 79 was a three shot improvement.
Chris Osberg finished 53rd with a 170 (82-88). Jeff Owsik was three shots back (84-89) in 57th. Kevin Reidinger finished tied for 63rd with a 180 (82-98).
Wesley shot a 663 to finish just one shot out of the top 10 in the team standings behind Washington and Lee.
Methodist held on to win the team title by 26 strokes with a 599 and also fielded the top two individual finishers. Matt Bova won with a 36-hole 143 (72-71) and Matt Bova was second, five shots back.
The tournament concluded the fall season for Wesley.
