Wesley Third in Division I Field

COMPLETE RESULTS

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Playing as just one of two Division III teams against 10 Division I squads, the Wesley College golf team placed an impressive third at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational.   The team's 595 set a CAC record for a 36-hole tournament.

The Wolverines placed a pair of golfers in the top 10.  Chris Osberg (Amherst, Va./Amherst) shot a 71-74 (145, +3) to tie for fourth in a 76-player field.  Freshman Bobby Ehrhardt (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) continued his impressive start, tying for eighth two strokes behind Osberg after shooting a 74-73.

Both of those efforts took aim on the Capital Athletic Conference record book.  Osberg's 145 ties for the second best 36-hole output in CAC history, while Ehrhardt's 147 ties for fourth.

Wesley's impressive finish tied for third in the tournament behind a pair of Division I teams, Navy and Penn.  The Midshipmen shot 301-286 (587) to win the team title.  The Quakers finished two shots back as a team with a 300-289, while the Wolverines took third with a 300-295 (595).

The Wolverines and Quakers were tied for the team lead after the first round after both squads shot team scores of 300. Wesley's 295 in the second round is the third lowest 36-hole team total in conference history.

Penn's Colin St. Maxens shot matching 71s to take the individual title with an even par 142.

Wesley's Alec Kessler (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area) turned in rounds of 76 and 73 to finish tied for 13th with a 149.  Rob Zimmerer (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley) placed in a tie for 30th with rounds of 79-75 (154).  Clayton Bunting (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech) rounded out the Wolverine five with an 80-83 (163) for a tie for 53rd.

The 36-hole tournament was hosted by Penn at the par 71, 6,480-yard King's Creek Country Club.

Wesley will look to continue its strong play with a trip to the Ted Keller Invitational, hosted by Randolph-Macon on October 3-4 in Glen Allen, Virginia.
