Germantown Duo Choose Wesley
DOVER, Del. - Wesley College men's basketball coach Jerry Kobasa announced the addition of a pair of incoming freshmen for the 2008-09 season.
The duo of point guard Khalief Mason and forward Jon Mason (no relation), both of Germantown High School in the Philadelphia Public League.
Khalief led the team in assists as a sophomore, junior and senior and improved upon his scoring average every season. As a senior, he led the team with 22.3 points per game and 5.9 assists per game. Khalief was named a Daily News Public League Fifth Team All-Star and he was voted all-league third team by the league's coaches. He finished his career with averages 16.4 ppg and 5.8 apg, including a career high 27 points against West Philadelphia.
Jon nearly averaged a double-double at 13.0 ppg and 9.8 rpg, leading Germantown in rebounding. Both his scoring and rebounding numbers improved each season and as a senior Jon was selected a Daily News Public League Honorable Mention. He had career-highs with 30 points and 16 rebounds against Franklin Learning Center.
The pair joins a talented cast of returning players on the Wolverine roster. Wesley finished 14-12 in 2007-08 and 9-7 in the competitive Capital Athletic Conference despite fielding a squad with no seniors. Junior guard Rashawn Johnson was named to the All-CAC, All-Middle-Atlantic Region and ECAC South All-Star teams after the season.
