Wolverines Soar Past Sea Gulls

Box Score

DOVER, Del. - Seven Wolverines scored in double figures as Wesley College outran Salisbury 111-83 at Wentworth Gymnasium in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Wesley (7-5, 4-0 CAC) used the long ball all night against the Sea Gulls (5-9, 2-3 CAC), their Route 13 rival.  The Wolverines sank 14-of-29 (48 percent) from three point range in the game.

The 111 points were the most by Wesley this season and the third time the Wolverines topped 100 in 2008-09.

Wesley jumped out to a 16-10 lead in the early going behind 10 points from Rudy Thomas (Milton, Del./Sussex Tech).  It took the sophomore just 5:48 into the game to match his career-high in scoring.

Leading by just five with four minutes to go in the half, 41-36, the Wolverines closed the half with a 14-5 run to lead a 55-41 at the intermission.

A three by Jacques Bowe (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) in the second half capped an 18-5 run that built the lead to 24, 80-56, with 10:39 remaining.  Jermaine Carter's (Richmond, Va./Thomas Jefferson) free throws with 57 seconds left gave Wesley its biggest lead of the game on the final score of the contest.

Rashawn Johnson (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Tech) led the Wolverines with 20 points, six rebounds and four steals.  Alphonzo Wright (Dover, Del./Polytech) added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

None of the other five Wolverines in double figures had more than Thomas' career-high 12.  Carter also tallied a career-high with 11 points on 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.  Evan Martin (Wilmington, Del./Laurinburg Institute {N.C.}) also had 11 points, as did Kevin Johnson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna).  James Stratton (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) tallied 10 points on the evening.

Martin dished out a team-high five assists, while Kevin Johnson blocked three shots to match his season total.

Salisbury's Greg Palmer scored a team-high 17 points before fouling out.  He added three threes for a Sea Gull attack that shot 40 percent from beyond the arc.

Ronald Mann scored 15 points to go along with five assists.  Devin Jones had a dozen points and Chris McGrew gave Salisbury four players in double figures with 10.

Wesley's 111 points in the game were the most since the Wolverines scored the same number in last year's four overtime thriller at Hood last February.

Speaking of the Blazers (5-9, 2-3 CAC), they will visit Wentworth Gymnasium on Saturday, January 17 in the next game for both squads.
