Wesley Topped by EMU
BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Eastern Mennonite's D.J. Hinson scored 34 points as Wesley College fell for the first time in 2009, 95-73 at the Don Glick/BC Classic.
Hinson hit 13-of-25 field goals, hit five threes, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists in the game.
The Wolverines (2-1) took a 20-12 lead early after a three by Jacques Bowe (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech), but the Royals (3-0) regrouped with an 18-4 run that gave them a 30-24 lead with 9:05 left in the first half after an Todd Phillips three.
EMU steadily built the lead to as many as 15 and led 50-37 at the half. The Royals continued to stretch the lead in the second half, keeping Wesley at bay.
Freshman David Langan (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) came up one point short of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 12 rebounds. Alphonzo Wright (Dover, Del./Polytech) had a team-high 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Bowe and Jermaine Carter (Richmond, Va./Thomas Jefferson) had 10 points apiece.
Rudy Thomas (Milton, Del./Sussex Tech) dished out five assists and had four steals.
Eli Crawford came off the bench for the Royals for 15 points, nine boards, five assists and four steals. Phillips had 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Wolverines will be back in action on November 27 when they take on Southern Virginia at the CNU Invitational in Newport News, Virginia.
