Second half Leads Wesley to Win
DOVER, Del. - Wesley College held Hood without a field goal for a six-minute stretch in the second half to lead the Wolverines to their sixth straight victory.
A a bucket by Blazers' (12-9, 7-5 CAC) Tory Wilson with 12:36 left tied the game at 40-40. That basket proved to be the last for the Blazers for over six minutes as the Wolverines went on a 10-3 run to take control of the game.
Hood took a 30-25 lead at the half behind 16 first half points by Reco Siler, who hit 8-of-9 field goals in the opening 20 minutes.
A three by Kevin Johnson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) and a layup by Paul Reynolds (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) in the first minute and a half of the tied the score at 30-30. The scores were part of a 15-4 Wesley (13-6, 7-4 CAC) that built a 40-34 lead with 15:36 to go after a free throw by Chris Douglas (Landover, Md./Jericho Prep Academy).
Hood quickly tied things before Wesley held the Blazers to 0-6 shooting and six turnover over the next six minutes.
Reynolds had his first career double-double in the game with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds. Rudy Thomas (Milton, Del./Sussex Tech) added 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting and three threes, while Alphonzo Wright (Dover, Del./Polytech) came off the bench for 10 points.
Siler led Hood with 18 points, but was held scoreless for the final 16:56 of the contest. He missed his final three shots over that period after starting the game 9-of-11 shooting. J'Air Brady added 15 points.
With the win, Wesley moved into third place in the CAC standings, one game behind second place York (Pa.).
The Wolverines are back in action on Monday, February 8 when Delmarva rival Washington (Md.) visits Wentworth Gymnasium.
