Bill Gorrow Named Head Coach

DOVER, Del. - Wesley College Executive Director of Sport & Recreation Mike Drass has named Bill Gorrow as the new head coach of the Wolverine's men's lacrosse program.

Gorrow brings an impressive resume to Dover.  He won the 1998 NJCAA National Championship and has nearly 28 years of collegiate coaching experience, including 21 as a head coach.  During that time, he has posted 171 career victories and a .643 winning percentage.

"I'd like to thank Dr. Johnston and Mike Drass for the opportunity to coach at Wesley College," Gorrow said.  "I'm honored and excited to take over a program that has been built on a solid foundation as we try to move to the next level."

He inherits a Wesley program that has won at least eight games in each of the past four seasons, winning over 70 percent of its conference games, and received votes in the USILA Top 20 in 2008.  The squad also features one Preseason All-American in defenseman Kirk Waldie.

"We had several outstanding candidates for position," Drass noted.  "Through process it became evident that Coach Gorrow was the most qualified for the job.  We look forward to a bright future with Bill Gorrow as our head coach."

Gorrow is the second winningest head coach at Franklin & Marshall tallying 50 wins, highlighted by an appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2003 and the 2002 ECAC Championship. Gorrow coached eight All-Americans, two Academic All-Americans and his Diplomat teams were nationally ranked from 2003-2005. Under Gorrow, Franklin & Marshall won the 2002 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship with an 18-3 victory over the University of Scranton. In 2003, F&M advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals and recorded a 12-4 mark to finish with a No. 9 national ranking. He finished his career as the second-winningest coach in program history.

Prior to F&M, Gorrow coached at Anne Arundel Community College from 1993-2001, posting an astounding 106-29 record. Gorrow led his team to the NJCAA Quarterfinals or better for nine consecutive years. A 2001, 1997 and 1993 quarterfinalist, his teams advanced to the semifinals in 1999 and 1995, and the championship game in 2000, 1998, 1996 and 1994. In 1998, Anne Arundel would claim the NJCAA National Championship as Gorrow was named the national junior college Coach of the Year in 1999. In addition, he was named the Conference Coach of the Year from 1994-96 and from 1998-2000.

From 1983 through 1989, Gorrow directed the Division I Georgetown University men's lacrosse team as the first full-time head coach in program history. In addition, he served as the Hoyas' Director of Athletic Support Services and Facilities, where he was the scheduling liaison for all athletic department staff in developing practice schedules for teams and coordinating support staff for home event management.

Since 1995, Gorrow has served as the administrative director of Top 205 Lacrosse Camp, the largest recruiting and exposure camp in the United States. In addition, he has prior experience as an assistant coach at Washington College (1981-83), Ithaca (1980-81) and North Country Community College (1978-79). While at Washington, Gorrow handled all recruiting in the New York, New England and Pennsylvania regions for the nationally ranked Shoremen. From 1989 through 1992, he served as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy. While at Navy, Gorrow was responsible for working with attackmen and goalies, scouting opponents and analyzing game film.

He received his bachelor's degree in Physical Education & Sport Management from the State University at Brockport in 1979.

Gorrow assumes his duties immediately as the team prepares for the 2009 season opener against the NCAA Division III preseason No. 1 and defending national champions from Salisbury on February 25.
