Wesley Bested in CAC Semifinals
OWINGS MILLS, Md. - No. 1 Stevenson opened the game with a 10-0 run and went on to win 19-4 over Wesley College in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
The Mustangs (14-0) led just 2-0 before Richie Ford scored twice in the final 2:03 and Steve Kazimer added his second goal of the period for a 5-0 lead after the first quarter.
Jimmy Dailey scored three of Stevenson's four second period goals as the lead grew to 9-0 at the intermission.
After Nick Pisacano (King's Park, N.Y./King's Park) cut it to 10-1 in the third, the Mustangs ran off six straight to end the period.
The Wesley (10-5) offense finally got something going in the fourth quarter as each team scored three goals, but the Mustangs lead was too much to overcome. Luke Moeller (St. Leonard, Md./Calverton School), Brad Smith (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill), and Justin D'Alonzo (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) all scored in the final quarter for Wesley.
Kirk Waldie (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) had nine ground balls for the Wolverines. Smith and Brad Bivins (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) had assists in the game. Jim McCleaft (Media, Pa./Sun Valley) stopped seven shots in goal.
Dailey had seven points in the game with four goals and three assists. Kazimer added three goals and a pair of assists and Ford scored three times and helped on another.
Geoff Hebert played the first 49 minutes in goal and stopped nine shots and allowed just a single goal. Taylor Maguire and Brett Yoder had seven ground balls each.
Wesley is now idle until concluding the regular season with a home contest against Greensboro (N.C.) on April 25 at 1:00 PM.
