Men's Lacrosse Edges Arcadia in Defensive Battle
GLENSIDE, Pa. – Wesley College's men's lacrosse team went on the road to defeat Arcadia in toughly contested defensive battle, 7-6, on Saturday afternoon at Easton Field. The Wolverines improve to 5-3 on the season while the Knights fall to 3-4.
Despite the low score, Wesley had its offensive standouts in Patrick Lipari and Mike Rakos. Lipari notched his first hat trick of the season with three goals while Rakos led all players with four points on two goals and two assists.
Rakos played a hand in the first three Wesley goals, assisting on Sam Seibert's tally to open the game, and after an Arcadia score, scored his first goal of the game just seconds into the second quarter before assisting on Lipari's first goal just over a minute and a half after to give the Wolverines a 3-1 lead.
Just over four minutes later, Lipari extended the Navy & White's lead to three goals, the largest margin of the day but the Knights scored three-straight to tie the score at four with 36 seconds remaining in the third.
A pair of Wesley seniors put the Wolverines back on top as Funk was credited with an assist on Lipari's goal with 9:40 left in the fourth before James Moss extended the lead 61 ticks later.
Arcadia cut the deficit to a single goal with 6:14 left to play but Mike Rakos sealed the victory with an unassisted tally 90 seconds later.
Wesley controlled the ball for much of the game, outshooting Arcadia, 41-22, but goalkeeper Jordan Culichia made 15 saves to keep the game in reach. Sam Kennedy stopped six Knights shots for the victory.
The Wolverines return to Scott D. Miller Stadium when they host CAC rival Marymount on April 2 for a 7 pm faceoff.
