Seniors Honored at Banquet

Wesley College honored seven seniors from the Wolverines men's soccer team at the Wesley College 2007-08 Senior Awards Banquet.

Head Coach Steve Clark recognized the group as one that has provided leadership to the freshman this past season, has certainly had their fair share of adversity with personal setbacks and injuries but has also had a lot of fun, tour England, one an ECAC championship and earned many soccer honors. Most importantly they have matured learned to accept responsibility and continue to challenge themselves as they prepare for their careers in; teaching, nursing, ship design, management, fitness training and coaching.

Seniors: CJ Twombly, who suffered a season ending injury in just the second weekend, has twice missed much of a season at a time when he was expected to be a regular starter first as a midfielder and this past season at left back and captain. Skilled player he will be graduating from the well respected Nursing program.

Peter Hulem who started off strong and simply got better was first team All-CAC this year and All PAC in previous seasons. A leader at the back, vocally and with his actions he has also scored some vital goals these past two seasons. Peter missed the first half of his season which with the loss of CJ in defense hurt the Wolverines into October as well as setting Peter back on what could have been an All American season. Peter graduates with his Education degree.

Sean Wise was a coach's delight with his effort at every practice and games, scored several vital goals and his speed was a constant threat to defenses throughout his career at Wesley. A captain, Sean should tall for the smaller players. Sean was the fourth North Caroline HS lad to play all four years at Wesley. Sean interns this summer with the WPSL and will graduate as a sports management major.

Allen Justis scored the quickest goal in Wesley history this year in just 12 seconds and will have another year at Wesley, having been a transfer, during which time we expect him to use his considerable communication skills as a student coach for the Wolverines. A strong athletic player with a rocket left foot shot he is still hoping for a chance at the next level and meanwhile will continue his soccer coaching career this summer.

Brian McCann scored our most important goal this year at St. Mary's, we started 9 freshmen with various injuries and he and Allen held the group together for that huge win. Like Peter he too will be graduating as a teacher having just completed a strong spell in student teaching and will also look to further his career as a coach this summer.

Jamie Shure, still talks about his bicycle kick in the ECAC as a freshman and he has continued to contribute each season showing great loyalty and adaptability as he was use all over the field. Jamie works this summer with Team Dynamics as he begins his career in the soccer fitness training field.

Kenny Heidtmann, is a gifted player who was recruited as a forward, had his best games in midfield but was needed to play defense for much of his senior year due to Peter's injuries and all this after battling back from two separate ACL injuries. The player's choice for MVP says it all. Graduating with a business degree Kenny is continuing in academics at Rhode Island in ship design.

Another large senior class that says a lot for the College in the support they have given these lads over the years. It speaks well of the friendships developed on our soccer team and speaks volumes to the dedication, maturity and skill of Peter, CJ, Jamie, Brian, Allen, Sean, and Kenny all demonstrated during there career as student-athletes at Wesley College. This is the third successive large senior class for Wesley Soccer and although a wonderful reflection on the loyalty of players, and their determination to graduate it will leave the Wolverines with a very young squad that will rely on the present freshman and this year's recruiting class to carry the torch next fall.

Seniors, Thank You - Coach Clark
