Wolverines Battle to Tie

Box Score

Dover, Del. - Despite being outshot 24 - 14, Wesley College (3-3-1) fought the visiting Pride of Widener University (2-4-2) to 1-1 tie in double overtime.

Wolverine goalie Nick Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) posted 11 saves on the night including two big saves in the first overtime period.

Wesley fell behind in the 44th minute when Widener's Justin Hovaker found the back of the net after a pass from fellow Pride Preston Dudley.  The goal marked the fifth consecutive shot on goal by the Pride in the previous six minutes of play.

The Prides aggressive play cost them a goal in the 73rd minute as goalie Marty Squicciarini attempted to clear a ball being chased down by a teammate, but instead the ball deflected directed behind Squicciarini for an own goal from 20 yards out.

The Pride had a chance late in regulation for the go ahead goal but a sliding kick save by Talarico shut the door on Widener's Dan Lorenzet.

Wesley had it best opportunity to score in the second overtime period when Thomas Yolain's (Windsor Mill, Md.) header went just wide off a corner kick from Mike Thomas (Frederick, Md.).

The tie leaves Wesley at an even 3-3-1 for the season.  The Wolverines travel to Gallaudet on September 24th for CAC match at 4:00 PM.
