Wesley Falls in Tournament Play

Hampden Sydney, Va. - The Wesley Wolverine Men's Soccer team met their match in the opening game of the 2009 Tiger Invitational by host team Hampden Sydney 5-0.

The Tigers (3-1) controlled play most of the game pressuring the Wolverines (2-2) defense and unloading 20 shots at the Wesley goal. Wolverine goalie, Nick Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) gave up four goals in just over 54 minutes of play. He was spelled at by back up Tom Mikulski (Nutley, N.J.) who gave up the last goal of the game.

Hamden Sydney cruised to a 3-0 first half lead on goals by Bret Chonko (8:36), Nick DeProspero (29:15) and Bryan Wharton (32:01). The Tiger defense was stiffling, allowing only 4 first half Wesley shots.

The Tigers earned two more goals in the second half by Will Robertson (51:08) and Bryan Hughes (56:23) easily advancing to the championship game tomorrow against the Saints of Marymount University.

Wesley will take on Guilford, who was defeated 3-0 by Marymount, at 12:00 noon on Sunday.
