Wesley Downs St. Mary's 4-1
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Wesley College score four times in a 24 minute span of the first half for a 4-1 comeback victory over St. Mary's (Md.) in Capital Athletic Conference men's soccer action.
Four different freshmen scored for the Wolverines (4-3, 1-0 CAC) in the team's CAC opener.
It was the Seahawks (2-5, 0-2 CAC), however, who scored first. Chris Quamina took a short pass from Ted Scharfenberg and struck the ball into the lower right corner at 19:01.
The lead lasted just 42 seconds. Luis Rivera (Rockville, Md./Rockville) converted a penalty kick to knot things at one apiece, but the tie did not last much longer than the St. Mary's lead.
At 24:47, Kyle Long (Delaware, Ohio/Buckeye) scored from 25 yards out, depositing the ball into the lower left corner of the goal. Joshua Chellah (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) scored again less than four minutes later to make it a 3-1 lead in favor of Wesley and assisted on Cory Hennessy's (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) goal at 43:21.
Nick Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) made four saves for Wesley in the win, while Paul Spranklin stopped three shots in the loss.
Wesley will be in search of its third straight win when Gallaudet visits Scott D. Miller Stadium on September 23.
