Comeback Not Enough
Fredricksburg, Va. - The Wesley College Men's Soccer team fell on the road to CAC rival Mary Washington 2-1. Wesley's Kyle Long (Delaware, Ohio/Buckeye) scored the lone goal for the Wolverines at the 50:51 mark, during the second half.
The Eagles scored two goals in the beginning 45 minutes of the game, the first one coming at the 15:27 mark by UMW's Ryan Taibel. Fellow Eagle John Tarley added the deciding goal at 34:10.
Long scored early in the second half for the Wolverines off a pass from Luis Rivera (Rockville, Md.), but that was the end of the scoring for both teams. The Wolverines' Saidu Fofanah (Yeardon, Pa./Pennwood) had a pair of scoring chances, including a one-on-one breakaway, but Wesley was unable to convert either into a goal
As a team Wesley (5-4, 2-1 CAC) was held to only 4 shots on goal, with 3 coming in the second half. Wolverine junior goalie, Nick Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) was outstanding goal fending off 18 Eagle shots with 9 saves on the day.
The Eagles (7-3, 3-0 CAC) controlled the ball on Wesley's side of the pitch, their hard work garnering 6 corners to Wesley's none.
"While I was disappointed in the first half, I was very pleased with the tremendous effort shown to battle back into the match in the second half," said Wesley Head Coach Steve Clark.
Wesley takes aim at Salisbury who is currently 7-1-1 on the season. The game is at 4:00 p.m. next Wednesday, September 30 at Salisbury.
