Comeback Spoils Upset Bid
SALISBURY, Md. - Wesley College received an early goal from Nico Scarpato (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township), but Salisbury pulled off an improbable late comeback for a 2-1 win.
Scarpato put Wesley on the board (5-5, 2-2 CAC) in the 13th minute and the Wolverines held the lead for the next 68 minutes.
Late in the 81st minute, the Sea Gulls (8-1-1, 2-1 CAC) received a goal to tie the game from Nick Malone and Kyle Sterling scored six minutes later to complete the comeback.
Nick Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) made nine saves in goal for the Wolverines.
The Sea Gulls held a 26-4 advantage in shots, but most were from long range as the Wesley defense kept the home team at bay for much of the afternoon.
"We needed a second goal, but we didn't get it," observed Wesley Head Coach Steve Clark. "It was a great effort for us, but it's disappointing. Ther are no moral victories. We thought we could hold out and win the game, but we did not."
The Wolverines will look to get back into the win column on Saturday, October 3 at Hood.
