Wesley Advances to ECAC Championship
Erie, Pa. - The Wesley College Men's Soccer team defeated Stevenson University 3-2 to advance to the ECAC South Championship. Wesley's Matt Nimmerichter (Middletown, Del.) broke a 2-2 tie in dramatic fashion finding the back of the net with twenty seconds remaining for the win.
Wesley jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead against Stevenson, a familiar conference foe during the regular season. Omar De Los Santos (Prescott Valley, Az.) scored off a penalty kick only 12:26 into the game.
Fellow Wolverine Luis Rivera (Rockville, Md.) added the second goal of the first half just 18 minutes later giving Wesley a commanding lead.
Stevenson fought back in the second half, evening the score with two goals of their own. Tyler King drove the ball past Wolverine goalie Nick Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) at 53:23.
Mustang striker Kyle Baker tied the score at the 79:52 mark off a nice assist from Ryan Pierce setting the stage for the fantastic finish.
Talarico finished with 6 saves on the day while the Mustangs out shot the Wolverines 13-9. Stevenson also held an advantage in corners at 5-2.
With the victory, Wesley advances to the ECAC South Championship to be played at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania on Sunday, November 15th at 1:00 p.m. The Wolverines will face the top seed an tournament hosts, Penn State Behrend, who advanced to the title game with a 1-0 win over Lebanon Valley.
