Wolverines Pick Up First CAC Win
DOVER, Del. - Wesley College picked up the first Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) win in school history with a 7-2 victory over visiting Hood College.
The Wolverines joined the CAC for 2008 after spending the previous 10 seasons in the PAC.
Wesley (2-4, 1-3 CAC) swept the doubles action and took four of the six singles matches. Andrew Smyth and Ken Reilly won 8-4 at first doubles, as did Will Johnson and Mickey DeSouza at second doubles. Rashad Lester and Luke Melillo completed the sweep with a 9-7 win at third doubles.
DeSouza, Mellilo, Smyth and Johnson won singles matches to seal the win. DeSouza won a tightly contested 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-6 match at second singles. Mellilo was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at fourth singles. Smyth and Johnson both rolled their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
It was the second win in as many days to start April for Wesley after the Wolverines took out Maryland Eastern Shore 8-1 on April 1.
Wesley will look to make it three in a row when York (Pa.) visits the DuPont Tennis Courts for a 2:00 PM match.
