Anastasi, Dawson place in top-10 at Hornet Invitational

SMYRNA, Del. – The Wesley College cross country teams competed in the Delaware State Hornet Invitational on Saturday in the Delaware State Outreach & Research Center in Smyrna, Del.

Against Division I competition, the Wesley men placed fourth while the women finished sixth. Maryland-Eastern Shore won the men's run and Morgan State took first in the women's race.

Anthony Anastasi and Brighton Dawson placed in the top-10 in the men's race. Anastasi recorded a ninth-place finish with a time of 18:46.0 and an average mile of 6:02.4. Dawson was right behind Anastasi, crossing the line in 10th place with a time of 18:49.6 with a mile pace of 6:03.6. Erick Acevedo tied for 18th place with Delaware State's Hanqaamo Lintiso with a time of 20:17.3. Jordan Dillard turned in a 21:11.7 time to finish in 23rd place.

Jontae Hankins finished 16th in the women's 5k with a time of 25:31.0 and an average mile of 8.12.7. Ceoni Bennett and Courtney Williams placed 24th and 26th respectively. Bennett finished in 28:40.4 while Williams crossed the line in 28:45.3. Aleya Cummings, Tyler Reid and Kyra Wesby placed 34th, 35th and 36th to round out the Wesley women's runners.

Alexander Haber (25th), Raul Torres (26th), Ian Thorne (27th), Thomas Kalieta Jr. (32nd) John Heriot (33rd), Tysean Cousar (34th) and Javonte Freeman (35th) also competed for Wesley at the meet.

The Wolverines will take part in the UMES Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15.
