Morgan Named All-East Region
DOVER, Del. - Wesley College's Jessica Morgan was chosen to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-East Region Third Team earlier this spring.
It was not the first postseason honor for the versatile Wolverine after a stellar 2007 season. The Newark, Delaware native was bestowed with All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) first team honors after appearing in games at pitcher, shortstop and catcher during the season. As a junior, she led the team in 18 statistical categories including: batting average (.425), RBIs (21), total bases (76), and homeruns (7). As a pitcher, Morgan struck out a team-high 29 batters and allowed the fewest hits on the pitching staff.
Wesley College finished the 2007 season 9-21 overall and 8-14 in the PAC.
Wolverines Earn Softball All-PAC Honors
May 8, 2007 - Four Wesley College Softball
players earned honors on the 2007 All-PAC team.
Jessica Morgan (Newark, DE/ St. Mark's) was bestowed with 1st Team
All-PAC Honors this week. Morgan pitched, played shortstop and
catcher during the season and also led the team in 18 different
statistical categories including: batting average (.425), RBI's
(21), total bases (76), and homeruns (7). As a pitcher, Morgan
struck out a team high 29 batters and allowed the fewest hits on
the pitching staff.
Junior Kelly Caton (Easthampton, NJ) and freshman Lyndsey Ellsworth
(Georgetown, DE) earned 2nd team honors.
Marie Elzey (Cambridge, MD) was Wesley's recipient of the "Push the
Rock" Sportsmanship Award.
Wesley Softballs Sweeps Gwynedd-Mercy in Finale
Gwynedd Valley, PA - The Wesley College (9-21,
8-14 PAC) softball team finished the season in style with a road
sweep of conference foe Gwynedd-Mercy (9-19, 7-13 PAC) 2-1, and
14-2.
After scoring one run in the top of the first, the Wolverines
earned the opening game win in the top of the sixth off of a
Jessica Morgan (Newark, DE) solo home run. Morgan finished the game
2 for 3 with 1 RBI. Wesley was able to hold off the Griffins in the
bottom of the 7th. Wolverine pitcher, Marie Elzey (Cambridge, MD)
went the distance, giving up 1 run on 5 hits while striking out
4.
In the night cap, Wesley's offense opened up scoring 5 runs in the
first two innings. Everyone got into the swing as the Wolverine
scattered 17 hits on the Griffins. Wesley finished the onslaught
with a 9 run 5th inning that brought the game to a close. Tami
Johnson (Millsboro, DE) gets the win.
Wesley Softball blanked by Salisbury
Dover, DE - Wesley College (6-20, 5-13 PAC) softball
team continued their skid losing two games to Route 13 rival
Salisbury University (30-7) today 8-0 and 12-0.
In the first game, the Sea Gulls scored 5 runs in the first inning
with help from 3 Wesley errors. On offense Wesley struggled at the
plate thanks to a one-hitter from Salisbury pitcher Stacy Davis
(Westminster, MD) who worked the first 4 innings.
Wesley's Marie Elzey (Cambridge, MD/ Cambridge South Dorchester)
gets the loss.
It was more of the same in the second game as the Sea Gulls scored
12 runs in the first three innings. Wesley's Elzey and Mallory
McCardell (Elkton, MD/ North East) both reached base via singles
and Jessica Morgan (Newark, DE/ St. Mark's) reached with a
walk.

Wesley Softball finishes tough Weekend
Dover, DE - The Wesley College (6-18, 5-13 PAC)
softball team continues to struggle dropping 5 of 6 games this
weekend.
On Friday, Wesley met PAC power College Misericordia (19-9, 13-1
PAC) on the road and fell both games, 9-1 and 18-1. Michele Mules
(York, PA/ Susquekannock) doubled in Shirelle Tingle (Seaford, DE/
Seaford) to score Wesley's only run in the top of the 5th inning of
the first game. In the second game, Misericordia used a 12 run 2nd
inning to down the Wolverines. Brandy Winhauer scored Wesley's only
run beating the play at the plate after a wild pitch.
On Saturday, Wesley split a doubleheader with Immaculata College
(3-16-1, 3-13 PAC) winning the first game 5-3, then dropping the
second game 9-4 at home.
In the first game, Wesley jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st
inning as Jessica Morgan (Newark, DE/ St. Marks) doubled in Lyndsey
Ellsworth (Georgetown, DE/ Sussex Tech), then Kelly Caton
(Easthampton, NJ/ Rancocas Valley) singled in Morgan.
Up 5-0 in the 7th, Wesley allowed Immaculata to score three runs,
but Morgan came in to get the last two out for the save. Marie
Elzey (Cambridge, MD/ Cambridge South Dorchester) got the win.
In game two, Wesley gave up 4 runs in the 1st inning and 2 more in
the 2nd on their way to the 9-4 loss. Morgan wasn't as effective
this time giving up 6 runs on 4 hits in the first two innings to
get the loss.
On Sunday, Wesley hosted a rescheduled doubleheader against PAC
rival Marywood (11-15, 9-7 PAC) but were bounced both games losing
6-3 and then 5-3.
In the first game, Wesley was tied the game at 3 in the bottom of
the 7th inning thanks to an RBI triple by by Caton, scoring Morgan.
But, Marywood scored 3 runs in the extra inning to come away with
the victory.
In the second game, Wesley fell behind 5-1 by the third inning, and
was unable to produce enough offense to get back into the game.
Marie Elzey pitched well in the contest giving up only 6 hits and 3
earned runs, but Wesley committed 5 errors to allow Marywood
runners into scoring position.

Softball vs. Marywood Postponed
Due to poor weather conditions, the Wesley Softball game scheduled for Sunday, April 15 has been postponed to Wednesday, April 18.
Softball Splits with Neumann
Dover, DE - Wesley (5-13, 4-8 PAC) softball split a
home doubleheader with PAC powerhouse Neumann (15-7, 10-4) on
Saturday wining the first game 13-11, then dropping the second
11-1.
The Lady Wolverines jumped out to 11 run lead scoring two runs in
the 1st and 2nd innings, then exploding for 7 runs in the third.
Lyndsey Ellis (Georgetown, DE/ Sussex Tech) hit a bases loaded
double, scoring three runs in the third to help power the scoring
binge.
Neumann closed the gap, scoring 5 runs in the 4th , then inched
closer with 1 and 2 runs in the 5th, and 6th respectively. Wesley
was able to hold off Knights in the top of the 7th to secure the
victory. Wesley pitcher Marie Elzey (Cambridge, MD/ Cambridge South
Dorchester) gets the win and Jessica Morgan (Newark, DE/ St.
Mark's) earned the save.
Wesley had its troubles in the second game committing 8 errors in
the 11-1 loss. Neumann pitcher, Angela Sebasto handcuffed Wesley
batters giving up only 4 hits in 6 strong innings of work.
The Wolverines scored their lone run in the bottom of the 4th on a
triple by Lara Krygier (Middletown, DE/ Red Lion) scoring Kelly
Caton (Easthampton, NJ/ Rancocas Valley) who had walked
earlier.
Wesley hosts Marywood College on Sunday, April 15, 1:00 p.m. start
time.
Wesley Softball wins two from Rosemont
Rosemont, PA - Wesley (4-12, 3-7) dominated conference foe Rosemont (1-13, 0-8) on the road 15-0 and 11-2 in a double header Wednesday. The wins break Wesley's 7 game losing skid and give the Lady Wolverines some much needed momentum going into Saturday's home double header with league leading Neumann College (14-4, 9-1).
Wesley was led at the plate by Shirelle Tingle (Seaford, DE/ Seaford) in the first game. Tingle was 3 for 3, with 2 runs and 3 RBI's. Wolverine pitching ace, Jessica Morgan (Newark, DE/ St. Mark's) gave up only 2 hits in 5 shut out innings. Morgan was also effective at the plate going 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI's. Centerfielder, Lyndsey Ellsworth (Georgetown, DE/ Sussex Tech) was 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI's in the victory.
In the second game, it was much of the same as Wesley scored 11 runs on only 9 hits, thanks to 6 Rosemont errors. Ellsworth continued her hot day at the plate going 3 for 4 with 4 runs and 5 RBI's. Tami Johnson (Millsboro, DE/ Epworth Christian) earned the victory pitching a complete game. Johnson gave up only 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4.
Wesley hosts Neumann College on Saturday, April 14, with the double header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Wesley Swept by Crusaders in Softball
READING, Pa. - Wesley College (2-12, 1-7) was
swept by conference opponent Alvernia College, in softball action
on Thursday afternoon, by final scores of 8-1 in the opener and
10-2 in game two. Marie Elzey (JR, Cambridge,
MD/Cambridge-South Dorchester) was 1-for-3 with a homerun, while
Lara Krygier (SO, Middletown, DE/Red Lion), Shirelle Tingle (SR,
Seaford, DE/Seaford), Michele Mules (FR, York, PA/Susquehannock),
and Kelly Caton (JR, Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) all had 1 hit
apiece.
In the nightcap, Caton was 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Jessica Morgan (JR, New Castle, DE/St. Mark's) was also 1-for-2 with 1 run scored. Both Morgan and Caton had doubles on the day, along with Mallory McCardell (FR, Elkton, MD/North East) adding another double for the Wolverines.
Wesley Loses Double Header against the
Cavaliers
Dover, DE - Wesley College (2-8, 1-3 PAC) loses
double header to the Cavaliers of Cabrini College (5-15, 4-2
PAC). In the double header the Wolverines loss by the final
score of 13-3 and 14-7.
Wesley Softball Splits Double Header with
Washington College
Chestertown, MD - Wesley worked out of a bottom of the
7th bases loaded jam to take the first half of a double
header against Washington College 4-3. Wesley's Kelly Caton
(Easthampton, NJ/ Rancocas Valley) was 3 for 4 from the plate with
2 RBI's to help Wesley to the win. Jessica Morgan (Newark,
DE/ St. Mark's) pitched 7 solid innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits.
Wesley (2-6, 1-1 PAC) was shut out in the bottom half of the double header 3-0. Washington College (5-9) got three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to ensure the victory. Wesley pitcher Tami Johnson (Millsboro, DE/ Epworth Christian) gave up 3 runs on 7 hits, with only 1 earned run.
Wesley plays Friday, March 30 at Arcadia University at 2:30 p.m.
Wesley Wins in Extra Innings to Split with
Eastern
DOVER, De. - Lyndsey Ellsworth (FR, Georgetown,
DE/Sussex Tech) tripled home Lara Krygier (SO, Middletown, DE/Red
Lion) to help Wesley to an 8-7 win in extra innings, in game two of
the twin-bill against Eastern University, in softball action on
Friday afternoon. The Wolverines fell in game one by a final
score
of 5-1 to put Wesley at 1-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Wesley was down 7-0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning in game two, but the Wolverines did not give up plating 7 runs in the inning to tie the score at 7 apiece. Ellsworth led off the bottom half of the inning with a triple and scored on a passed ball to put the score at 7-1. Jessica Morgan (JR, New Castle, DE/St. Mark's) then connected on her 3rd homerun of the season making the score 7-2. After Wesley loaded the bases Brandy Winhauer (JR, Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) had a sacrifice fly to plate another Wesley run. With the bases still loaded Mallory McCardell (FR, Elkton, MD/North East) tripled home 3 runs to bring Wesley within 1 (7-6). McCardell then scored on a passed ball to tie the score and pave the way for Ellsworth's heroics in the nightcap victory.
Ellsworth was 3-for-5 in the nightcap with the 3 triples and Caton was 2-for-4 with 1 run scored, along with Michele Mules (FR, York, PA/Susquehannock) who was also 2-for-4. In game one, Morgan and Krygier both had one hit apiece, while Shirelle Tingle (JR, Seaford, DE/Seaford) had 1 RBI. Softball Game @ Swarthmore Postponed
DOVER, De. - The Wesley College softball game
scheduled for Tuesday, March 20th at Swarthmore College has been
postponed. A make-up date has not been set. Wesley will
next be in action on Friday, March 23rd as the Wolverines will host
conference opponent Eastern University, with first pitch set for
2:30, in doubleheader action.
Wesley Drops Two at Mary Washington
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Wesley College (0-4) lost
two games to the University of Mary Washington by final scores of
7-4 and 13-0, in non-conference softball action on Sunday
afternoon. On the day, Wesley was led by Jessica Morgan (JR,
New Castle, DE/St. Mark's) and Kelly Caton (JR, Easthampton,
NJ/Rancocas Valley) were both 2-for-4 on the day. Morgan had
a homerun and a double, and Lara Krygier (SO, Middletown, DE/Red
Lion) was 2-for-5 with 5 RBI's.
Wesley Swept in Season Opener
DOVER, De. - Wesley College (0-2) was swept by
non-conference opponent King's College (9-4) in softball action, by
final scores of 14-6 and 14-2, at Reynolds DuPont Softball Field on
Tuesday afternoon. Wesley jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in
game one after a 2-run homerun by Jessica Morgan (JR, New Castle,
DE/St. Mark's), but the Monarchs answered with 10 runs in the top
of the 2nd inning. The Wolverines would not go quietly as
they posted 4 runs in the bottom of the inning, but would get no
closer the rest of the way. Morgan was 3-for-3 with 2 runs
scored and 2 RBI's, while Marie Elzey (JR, Cambridge,
MD/Cambridge-South Dorchester) and Lyndsey Ellsworth (FR,
Georgetown, DE/Sussex Tech) were both 2-for-3 on the day.
In the finale of the twinbill, the Wolverines were led by Kelly Caton (JR, Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) who was 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, and Morgan was 1-for-2 with 1 run scored.
Caton Named to 1st Team for Softball
DOVER, De. - Kelly Caton (SO, OF, Easthampton,
NJ/Rancocas Valley) was named to the 2006 1st Team All-Pennsylvania
Athletic (PAC) Softball Team, which was announced on Thursday
afternoon. Caton, who was a 2nd team selection in her rookie
campaign, played and started in all 40 games for Wesley as she
posted a .308 batting average and also led the team in triples with
5. Caton was equally impressive in the field committing only
1 error on the season, posting a .986 fielding percentage.
Jessica Morgan (SO, UT, New Castle, DE/St. Mark's), who was just named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III 2nd Team All-East Region, was a 2nd Team All-PAC selection. Morgan only led the conference in hitting (.505), RBI's (44) and total bases (109), while finishing second overall in runs scored (28) and homeruns (11). Morgan also posted a slugging percentage of .982.
Mary O'Donnell (SR, IF, Novato, CA/Marin Catholic) was named to the "Push the Rock" All-PAC Sportsmanship Team.

Jessica Morgan (SO, New Castle, DE/St. Mark's) was named to the
2006 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association
(NFCA) Division III 2nd Team All-East Region. Morgan, who was
named as a utility player, started in all 40 games for Wesley,
leading the team in hitting (.505), hits (56), doubles (14),
homeruns (11), RBI's (44), total bases (109), slugging percentage
(.982) and walks (17). Morgan was also a pitcher for Wesley
compiling a 4-9 overall record, pitching 70 2/3 innings and
striking out 47.
Morgan hit .373 in 2005, followed her rookie season by leading the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) in hitting, RBI's and total bases, while finishing second overall in runs scored and homeruns.
