SUNY Geneseo Takes Two from Wesley

DOVER, Del. - SUNY Geneseo got a pair of homers from Katie Holm to lead to an 11-6 win in game one, then claimed 8-0 win in game two to sweep a doubleheader from Wesley College.

In game one, KK Schaus had an RBI single and scored on Holm's first home run of the day as the Knights went ahead 3-0.

Holm and Jackie Davey each drove in two runs in the second inning as SUNY Geneseo extended the lead to 7-0. 

Carmen Walsh (Rehoboth Beach, Del./St.Marks) scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning and Megan Street (Bridgeville, Del./Epworth Christian) clubbed an RBI double in the third as Wesley pulled to within 7-2.

Holm's second blast extended it to 8-2, but the Wolverines' Brittany Steele (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) ripped a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to four runs.

Another two-run base hit in the fifth inning, this one by Lyndsey Ellsworth (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech), brought Wesley to within 8-6 after five innings. 

Neither team scored in the sixth inning before RBI singles by Nickie Steger and Schaus and a passed ball brought home three runs for the Knights to put the game out of reach.

Holm went 3-for-5 in the game with five RBIs.  Schaus also had three hits. 

Ellsworth had three hits for the Wolverines, while Lacey Smith (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Michele Mules (York, Pa./Susquehannock) had two apiece.

Kerry Kuhn struck out seven batters in a complete game to pick up the win.  Steele also went the distance in the loss.

Janine Montera tossed a two-hitter in the second game, while the Wolverines were undone by seven errors in the loss.

After the Knights scored twice in the first, RBI singles by Steger, Holm and Megan Pogemiller extended the lead to 5-0 in the second.

SUNY Geneseo added another run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to end the game.

Montera fanned eight and walked just a pair of batters.

Holm and Bree Crosett had two hits apiece in the win. 

Wesley received one hit from Nikki Barton (Harrington, Del./Lake Forest) in the second inning and one from Steele in the fourth.

Only two of the eight runs Street allowed were earned.  The senior struck out seven while allowing eight hits and three walks.

Penn State Abington visits Wesley on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 PM.
