Wesley Swept in CAC Opener

DOVER, Del. - Wesley College started Capital Athletic Conference play with a pair of losses to the University of Mary Washington.
Kirsten Rowell picked up the wins in both ends of the doubleheader for the Eagles.
In game one, she struck out 12 as Wesley fell 4-1.
Both teams scored in the first inning. Amanda Adams drove in a run in the top of the inning with a single through the left side. Wesley answered back, however, with a lead off triple by Kim Fearnbach (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and an RBI single by Megan Street (Bridgeville, Del./Epworth Christian).
Monique DeZarn drove home the winning run in the fourth and added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh.
Both offenses struck early in game two, before the teams brought in relievers who kept batters off balance for the remainder of the contest.
Mary Washington scored four times in the first inning, including a two-run single by Kaitlin Petrella, who also drove in a run in the second as the Eagles jumped ahead 5-0.
Wesley got three runs back in the third with an RBI single by Lyndsey Ellsworth (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech) and a two-run base hit by Kelly Karle (Baltimore, Md./Mercy).
Rowell entered the game in relief of Nicole Foster and held Wesley to just two hits over the final 4.2 innings and struck out 10 to pick up the win.
Not to be outdone, Brittany Steele (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) allowed just two hits over the final six innings for the Wolverines.
Wesley is back in action on Wednesday, March 25 when Salisbury visits the Wolverines.
