Street Shuts Out Stevenson

Box Scores:  Game One | Game Two

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Wesley College's Megan Street (Bridgeville, Del./Epworth Christian) outdueled Julianne Roper in the first game to throw her second shutout of the season as the Wolverines and Mustangs split a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Both pitchers allowed seven hits, but the Wolverines pushed a pair of runs across home plate in their first at bat and Street did the rest for the 2-0 win.

Kim Fearnbach (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and McKenzie Davis (Hebron, Md./Mardela) led off the game with back-to-back singles.  Nikki Barton (Harrington, Del./Lake Forest) drove in Fearnbach with a fielder's choice and Davis scored on a passed ball later in the inning.

Street pitched out of a pair of bases loaded jams in the game.  In the second inning, Stevenson loaded the bases with no one out, but Street retired the next three batters in order to end the threat.

Then in the sixth, Stevenson put three runners on base with two outs before third baseman Carmen Walsh (Rehoboth Beach, Del./St.Marks) fielded a ground ball to third and stepped on the bag for the final out of the inning.

Wesley's Michele Mules (York, Pa./Susquehannock) and the Mustangs' Lisa Bilski had two hits apiece.

Street also allowed two walks and struck out two in the win, her third of the season.

Stevenson rebounded to take the second game, 6-5.

After a sacrifice fly gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead after the first, Wesley responded by loading the bases in the top of the second for Davis, who ripped a bases clearing double for a 3-1 Wesley lead.

Stevenson closed it to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning and Brittany King hit a three run home run in the third to give the Mustangs a 5-3 lead.  The lead stretched to 6-3 with another run in the fourth before the Wolverines rallied in the fifth.

Barton led off the inning with a single and scored on a double down the left field line by Walsh.  One batter later, Street pinch hit and drove home Walsh with a base hit up the middle.  Megan Kunkel worked out of the jam, however, forcing a double play to end the inning.

Brittani Rynkowski had three hits for Stevenson.

Barton, Walsh and Mules had two each for Wesley.
