Ellsworth Leads Wesley to Sweep

Box Scores:  Game One | Game Two

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Wesley College's Lyndsey Ellsworth (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech) had four hits, homered and pitched a complete game in the nightcap to complete the sweep of Capital Athletic Conference foe Gallaudet.

The complete game win was the junior's first in 2009.  She also struck out a career-high eight batters, while allowing only five hits in the 11-4 Wesley victory.

She drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and Lauren Cashin (Dunelle, Md./Dunelle) added an RBI single as the Wolverines jumped ahead 2-0.

Ellsworth picked up her first of two doubles in the game in the second inning, driving in another run.

After the Bison cut it to 4-3 in the third, Wesley broke it open with a three-run fourth.  Four straight singles to lead off the inning, coupled with a balk, brought home the first two runs before Ellsworth scored on a passed ball.

Carmen Walsh (Rehoboth Beach, Del./St.Marks) clubbed her second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth, and Ellsworth had her first to lead off the sixth as the Wolverines pulled away in the late innings.

In addition to Ellsworth's four hits, Walsh had three hits for Wesley.  Both players had three RBIs.  Michele Mules (York, Pa./Susquehannock), Megan Street (Bridgeville, Del./Epworth Christian) and Kelly Karle (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) each had two hits.

McKenzie Davis (Hebron, Md./Mardela) had three hits, scored twice and drove in two more in the opener won by Wesley 5-4.

Street went the distance inside the circle, striking out four and scattering nine hits and four walks.

The Wolverines scored once in the first on an RBI double by Nikki Barton (Harrington, Del./Lake Forest) that plated Davis.  Wesley scored three more in the third inning on run scoring singles by Davis and Barton and an RBI ground out by Street.

Gallaudet battled back to tie the game in the sixth inning, but Davis doubled home Karle in the seventh for the winning run and Street retired the Bison in order in the bottom of the inning.

Walsh and Barton had two hits apiece for the Wolverines.

Wesley is back in action on Monday, April 13 at noon with a CAC doubleheader against Hood.
