Dover, Del. - The Wesley College Softball team split a rescheduled double header today against CAC rival Hood College. Hood took the second game 8-6 powered by Stephanie Gardner's 4 RBI's.
Game One.
Down 1-0 going into the bottom of the third, the Wolverines tallied two runs on a two out rally. Street helped her own cause by knocking in the first run with a bases loaded single. Her single scored McKenzie Davis (Hebron, Md./Mardela) who originally reached base on a walk.
With the bases still loaded, Keeyana Talley (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) hit another single scoring Lyndsey Ellsworth (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech) who had also reached base on a walk.
The Wolverines added an insurance run in the bottom of the 5th. With Davis on third after a lead off single and advancing on an infield play, Nikki Barton (Harrington, Del./Lake Forest) was able to reach 1st on a error allowing Davis to score.
Wesley's 3-1 lead held as Street continued to baffle the Blazer's batters. Street pitched the complete game striking out 4 in the process.
The Wolverines now travel to Hood College for the first round of the CAC championship tournament on Tuesday, April 14th.
Game Two.
Both Hood and Wesley saved their offense for the second game as both teams showed their firepower in the 8-6 Hood victory in the night cap.
Not willing to play safe this game, Hood used six stolen bases, including a steal of home plate by the Blazer's Jen Willison, in the first inning to jump to a quick 4-0 lead.
Wesley did not stand idly by as they used the bottom half of the inning pasting 3 runs themselves. With Ellsworth on first and Carmen Walsh (Rehoboth Beach, Del./St.Marks) on third, Wesley executed a double steal. It worked to perfection as Ellsworth gained second and Walsh stole home to match the same feat of the Blazers.
Ellsworth scored later on wild pitch, and Street earned an RBI while grounding out to the shortstop allowing Barton to score the third run in the inning.
Hood added one more run in the top of the second taking a 5-3 lead. They would later stretch that lead to 7-3 in the top of the 4th off a 2 RBI triple from Stephanie Gardner.
Wesley inched back scoring one run each in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
Street was strong again at the plate and on the base path as she singled, then after a walk put her on second, scored after a wild pitch got away from the Blazers in the fourth. In the fifth, Street earned a bases loaded walk that scored Lauren Cashin (Dunelle, Md./Dunelle).
In the sixth, Michele Mules (York, Pa./Susquehannock) made her way around the diamond after a leadoff single. Mules advanced to second on a fielder's choice, subsequently stole third, and then scored on wild pitch. In the end it was not enough to catch the Blazer's who had also added a run in the top of the sixth.
Wesley travels to Hood College for the first round of the CAC championship tournament on Tuesday, April 14th.
